NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Otselic Valley Central School District, Chenango and Madison Counties, New York, will be held in the South Otselic school building in said district on May 3, 2018 at 7:00 PM prevailing time, for the presentation of the 2018-19 budget. The budget will be available for review on May 1, 2018 at the Otselic Valley School. The budget will also be available on this website.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that said vote and election will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 between the hours of 12:00 PM and 9:00 PM, prevailing time, at the following polling place: Otselic Valley School Building, 125 County Road 13A, South Otselic, New York, for the purpose of voting upon the following propositions:
- To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2018-19 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.
- To elect one member of the Board of Education for a 5 year term commencing July 1, 2018 and expiring on June 30, 2023 and to succeed Rachel Peabody, whose term expires on June 30, 2018.
- Shall the Otselic Valley Central School District allow a high school student to serve on the Board of Education as an ex-officio non-voting member, as provided in Education Law Section 1804.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that qualified voters may obtain applications for absentee ballots from the Office of Clerk of the School District at her office in the junior-senior high school, 125 County Road 13A, South Otselic, NY. Completed applications must be received by the Clerk of the School District no later than 4:00 PM on May 14, 2018, and must be received no later than 4:00 PM on May 9, 2018, if the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications received after 4:00 PM on May 9, 2018, will require the voter to personally appear at the office of the District Clerk of the School District to receive an absentee ballot. A listing of all persons to whom an absentee ballot is issued will be available for inspection by any qualified voter in the Office of the School District between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM through May 15, 2018, except Saturday, Sunday or holiday. That listing will also be posted at the polling place on the date of the meeting.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District's budget for 2018-19 exclusive of public monies, and the tax exemption report, may be obtained by any resident of the District during business hours beginning May 1, 2018, except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, at the District Office, South Otselic, New York.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office in the school, 125 County Road 13A, South Otselic, NY, not later than Monday, April 16, 2018 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District, shall be signed by at least 25 voters of the District, and must state the name and residence of the candidate.
Only qualified voters will be permitted to vote. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, and (3) a resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding this District Meeting.
