OV students to sing in the All-County Winter Festival
It is a rare opportunity to sing with student musicians from other schools, but OV's Madison, Peter, and Jessica will do just that as part of the All-County Winter Festival held at Sherburne-Earlville Central School District on January 21.
All-County is a competitive, annual winter music festival run by area music educators, with carefully selected compositions and choral pieces led by guest conductors. Chenango County students audition in their respective schools, and those selected work in advance with their own music teachers to learn the basics of more difficult music that will be performed at the festival.
Festival day brings everyone together for hours of intensive rehearsal in large choruses and varied bands. Their work together is focused and often thrilling given the complexity of the music program and the size of the performing groups.
Music selected by festival organizers isn't easy, but that's the beauty of this opportunity. All-County helps students unpack rich music, become challenged and comfortable in equal parts, and then perform for an audience during the afternoon concert. By the time students take the stage, they will have stretched their musicianship, and become part of something much larger than they're used to.
Congratulations to Madison, Peter, and Jessica, with special thanks to Mrs. Neal.
Tickets to the 4 pm concert are available to the public at the door (Sherburne-Earlville): $2/student, $3/adult.
