On Monday, May 1 at about 8 am, the members of SADD (Student’s Against Destructive Decisions) will, with the help of local fire departments, EMTs, and law enforcement, re-enact a texting-while-driving crash scenario on school grounds for our high school students. There will be actual first responders in firetrucks, ambulances, and police cars with sirens at Otselic Valley supporting this event. The object is to make the re-enactment as realistic as possible. Students in SADD will be acting out roles which include injured passengers, a handcuffed distracted driver, and more. Following the accident scene, students will be brought into the building for a mock arraignment.
The purpose of this activity is to help the young adults of OV understand the dire consequences of distracted driving. Since Junior Prom is only two weeks away, this lesson is more important than ever. Please don't be alarmed if you hear sirens or see first responder activity at OV on Monday morning.
