Smith, O'Connor recognized at Scholar Recognition Partnership event
Otselic Valley was one of the 41 schools participating in the Business and Education Scholar Recognition Partnership Program and banquet held at SUNY Oneonta in May. The program supported by the NBT Insurance Agency, LLC, The Daily Star, NBT Bank, and other major sponsors, enhances relationships between the business community, schools, and institutions of higher and continuing education while recognizing outstanding scholastic achievement by a member of the graduating classes of the public, private and parochial secondary schools in the DCMO and ONC BOCES supervisory area.
Students are chosen on the basis of scholarship, as well as leadership and service to school and/or community. Local grades, Regents scores, and other formal measures may be used in the selection process. The program also recognizes teachers nominated by each student scholar for having a beneficial influence on their education.
This year’s awardees from Otselic Valley were student Brynley Smith and teacher Carolina O’Connor. Our official sponsor: NBT Bank.
“The Scholar Recognition program was born of an idea brought to the Otsego County Chamber by Daniel Swift, retired publisher of The Daily Star,” explains the official event program. “Mr. Swift’s dream was to find an opportunity to recognize high achieving students and the people who made a difference in their lives. The short list includes the teachers, coaches and mentors who inspire them, the families that guided their lives, and the administrators that lead our schools.”
Congratulations, Brynley Smith and Mrs. O’Connor.
