Seeking presenters for the Third Annual Career Day scheduled for May 23

The Third Annual Otselic Valley Career Day is scheduled for May 23 from 8:00-11:30 AM, and Student Government is looking for professionals to share their real-world experience in small group, student-facilitated,  question and answer sessions. Could this be you?

Because students typically have limited exposure to the array of professions practiced by school alumni and members of a community, Career Day encourages students  to think further about careers follow graduation from high school, trade school, or college.

Having community members and alumni talk about their professional choices brings choices close to home. With future plans in mind, life after school begins to seem even more positive and...possible. Most importantly, a chance to talk directly to professionals lets students ask questions and hear from you what it's really like to live out the careers they're considering.

This well-organized event provides optimum experiences for students, and comfort for our presenters.  Our Career Day guests are introduced to high school students in an assembly, and then are escorted to comfortable classrooms for the interactive portion of the morning. Students will have previously chosen those professions they're interested in and have schedules for joining each small group that meets with each guest. Student government members host each brief session and come prepared with good questions for professionals--presenters do not need to deliver a speech. Students also have a chance to ask questions at the close of each session.

Previous presenters have included business owners, published writers, law enforcement, health care providers, and more. This year we've heard that some students are especially interested in physical therapy, cardiology, gunsmith work, forensic science, criminology, and video game design.

If you are interested or know someone who may be interested, please contact teachers Jenny Osowski ( or Pamela Ross (

Thank you for helping inform our students' career exploration. The future is waiting.
