Another new staff member at O V this year is Mr. Daniel Silky, our Business Administrator.
Mr. Silky is responsible for the business side of O V where, he explained, he approaches his responsibilities with a focus on clear and frequent communication, transparency, an open mind, and most importantly, the students’? interests.
We’ve already seen his transparency in action through his emerging work with the Shared Decision Making Team. Under his leadership we can expect regular reporting and clear capture of the group’s goals and actions.
“I listen to others’ opinion and think before I take action,” he explained. “I’m a very inquisitive person. I’m always asking the question, ‘Why?’ when it comes to how something is done.”
Before coming here Mr. Silky was first Assistant Business Administrator and then Director of Auxiliary Services at Skaneateles Central School District. Before transitioning into school business, he was Finance Director and Pricing Director in Xerox’s Services Division for seven years. At the start of his professional career he also spent several years as an Information Technology Auditor with K P M G.
Mr. Silky recently completed the Certificate of Advanced Study program at Le Moyne College, and last winter completed the School District Business Leader certification exam. His career highlights also included successful completion of professional certification exams in the areas of Information Technology Audit and Project Management.
Public school service seems to run in his blood, he told us. “My mother was an elementary teacher at Fabius-Pompey, my sister is an elementary teacher at Manchester-Shortsville (outside Rochester), and my father has had a long public education career in a various roles.”
Mr. Silky is excited to get to know the community. “I’ve heard such great things about the passion for the school district as well as the welcoming nature of folks.”
