Cameron Bartlett places in regional competition for the Scripps National Spelling Bee

Cameron Bartlett (grade 7) represented Otselic Valley with poise and grace at the 17th Annual Regional Spelling Bee on March 2, 2109 at SUNY Oneonta.  Her seat at the regional bee sponsored by The Daily Star was earned through her previous win at Otselic Valley's own spelling bee, a part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee local competition.
At the regional spelling bee, Cameron came in 8th out of 19 participants. This is an outstanding finish for any speller, but it's especially true for someone who has never competed in a high-stakes regional spelling bee before. Cameron correctly spelled the words opera, scow, aquatic, and Dracula. She finally misspelled the word falsetto in round 5.
Throughout the bee she enunciated her letters clearly, was friendly to the other spellers, and exhibited true sportsmanship, Mrs. Hammer told us.
Congratulations to Cameron for working hard and then taking a chance, first on our own stage then in the Goodrich Theater in Oneonta. We are proud!
