We know these are trying times for all of our families. Please understand that our teachers are working hard to find ways to connect with each student/family. They are trying to keep the learning momentum moving forward. However, we understand that this is all new to you too. Some families have members still working. Some families have unreliable internet access. We ask that you encourage your children to do the best they can. Encourage them to ask for help. Let them take breaks. We do not expect them to be able to make every zoom or google meeting. Let them go outside. Let them play and talk to them about how they are feeling during these uncertain times.
Currently the recommendation for home teaching for the grade levels is:
K-3 – 2 hours
4-6 – 3 hours
7-9 – 4 hours
10-12 – at most 5-6 hours
Use this as a guide for your children.
If you find that the work is too much, please reach out to your child’s teacher if you can. They are available in a variety of ways such as texting, emails, Facebook messaging, Remind App, or phone calls. They also may ask for work submitted in different ways. Find what works best for you and your family. And if you think your child needs more work, there are a lot of online sites available for free right now. We encourage you to find things that work best for you and your family and help us to continue the momentum of moving forward with learning.
Elementary teachers will start giving checklists each week for families to understand what they are expecting. 7-12 teachers will continue to reach out to the students themselves, but parents may also get phone calls from teachers, support staff and administration, encouraging them to check on their child’s progress. Help us help your children to continue to be successful at school.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out as we all figure out this new normal. Stay safe!
