Dear Otselic Valley:
More information came out today from both the Governor's office and the New York State Board of Regents:
In today's COVID-19 briefing, Governor Cuomo indicated that statewide school closures would continue until April 29. Closure is required to continue social distancing needed to slow the spread of the coronavirus/COVID-19. We will reopen when advised by the Governor and local public health officials. Keep in mind that the Governor's directives have so far been issued in 2-week increments, so we will watch for any further changes.
At the Board of Regents meeting today, Chancellor Rosa announced that upcoming Regents examinations are cancelled, and guidance on graduation requirements will be issued tomorrow. We will update you as soon as we have more information.
During this extended closure, which includes our previously scheduled spring recess (April 6-13), teachers will continue online instruction as required by the NYS Education Department, and FREE meals will continue to be distributed, both through requested delivery and at two pickup locations: Otselic Valley Central School, and the Georgetown school campus.
There is no question that these are unusual and sometimes difficult times. We understand that this isn't the Otselic Valley school year our seniors and all other students and staff imagined. We are working together to do the best we can. All of our educators understand the challenges related to learning at home, and are here to help. Bus drivers and aides are distributing food with grace and kindness. Ms. Moison has lots of useful resources to help with coping, planning, and more. The Chenango County Health Department provides valuable resources needed for understanding and dealing with this novel coronavirus too
Please continue to do all you can to stay well. Stay safe at home so the virus has nowhere to go, and wash your hands frequently to keep yourselves strong and healthy. Do the best you can with your continued learning. The good news: spring is here!
Robert G. Berson, Superintendent of Schools
Otselic Valley CSD
