Message from Mr. Drahos, July 9, 2020, with COVID-19 protocols

TO: the Otselic Valley Community
FROM: Michael R. Drahos, Interim Superintendent
RE: COVID-19 Protocols
DATE: July 9, 2020
It is my honor to be joining the Otselic Valley Learning Community as your interim superintendent. During these unprecedented times of uncertainty it is my hope that I can use my experience to assist the district during this period of transition to a permanent superintendent.
In the days and months ahead the Otselic Valley Board of Education and I will do everything in our power to navigate the twists and turns that will challenge our mission to educate and inspire every student to achieve excellence. I am confident we have an amazing and committed staff to do precisely that. I look forward to getting to know the supportive parents and community members who support the school and its children in so many ways.
Yesterday Governor Cuomo announced that on Monday, July 13th schools will be given specific guidance for reopening. Districts then have until July 31st to submit detailed plans that comply with that guidance. Sometime in that following week the governor will then announce a decision about when, if, and how  schools may reopen. At Otselic Valley we have a dedicated staff. Key people have agreed to be part of a task force to make sure we have a plan in place by the 31st. Next week, when we have more specifics, I will be updating our families  and seeking their input, which then will be shared with the task force.
In the meantime, based on current mandates  and  guidelines, the building and school grounds remain closed except for essential personnel. If you need to come to the building you should call for an appointment and arrangements will be made if possible. When visitors arrive they must come to the main entrance. They will be provided with a four question health screening questionnaire to complete, and need to wear a face mask when entering the building. Please rest assured that our building is constantly being cleaned and all of our employees are required to wear masks when coming in contact with others.
Thank you, in advance, for your patience and cooperation. As a comunity school I know that many of these pandemic related requirements seem awkward and unfriendly. However, we will do what we need to do to reopen our school and ensure that we provide a safe and robust educational opportunity for each of our children.
