The Head Start Program of Opportunities for Chenango, Inc. is recruiting children for the 2019-2020 program year. Two programs are available:
- Early Head Start, serving pregnant women and children 0-3 years of age, including full day classes offered year round, 5 days/week, for 18 and 24 month olds
- Preschool Head Start, serving children 3-5 years of age through a full day of classes
Head Start program options include both center-based and home-based opportunites. All options offer comprehensive services to enrolled children and their families.
Family support services follow a strength-based model that aligns with each family's goals, and offer training opportunities, one-on-one assistance, and referrals to other agencies.
Head Start eligibility criteria includes families who fall within specified poverty guidelines, but they are also able to serve a limited number of families, regardless of income, with very high needs or who have an age-eligible child with a diagnosed disability.
Preschool Head Start is for children ages 3-5 and their families. Preschool services can be provided in a classroom or theough weekly home visits. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational ativities designed to meet their individual needs and to build school readiness skills. Parents are actively involved in all aspects of the program.
Early Head Start is for pregnant women, and children ages birth to 3 years old. Services can be provided in a classroom for 18 and 24-month-old children or by weekly home visits for pregnant women and children from birth to 3. Activities are planned that encourage parents to observe and celebrate the developmental growth of their child.
Group classroom experiences are held twice a month for families enrolled in the home-based program.
