Sixth graders, Mrs. Youngs, and Mrs. Osowski made a presentation to the Board of Education this week about a very special, two-grade adventure they're looking forward to.
The sixth and tenth graders have teamed up for a trip to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on June 24. They will take a charter bus to New Jersey and then take a ferry to Ellis Island. Teachers, students, and ten parent-chaperones are traveling together for this special opportunity.
The trip's educational value is significant: it will be integrated with a literacy-based immigration unit, include a photography unit, and keep American history in view.
The cost is $50 per student, but we are very grateful to the Otselic Valley PTO for helping with the cost of the bus, and the Arts in Education program through B O C E S for helping with the cost of tickets.
We're also very proud of students for their fun and informative presentation informing the school board about their plans. It can be scary to speak at such an official meeting, students said, but they did such a good job that we know they will represent Otselic Valley with confidence and responsibility when they travel to New York.
