A message from Superintendent Robert Berson:
It is with a heavy heart that we share news of the untimely passing of Harry Marvin, Jr. He was a long-time bus driver, valued member of this community, and a beloved part of the Otselic Valley Central School District family.
Monday, January 7 will be a 2-HOUR DELAY FOR STUDENTS so staff can meet about this unexpected loss.
As a bus driver, Harry was the person who began and ended the school day for students on his route--he set the tone with humor and presence. He also drove bus for students attending events and games throughout the area. Our Vikings were fortunate indeed to be cared for by a professional whose compassion was as big as the day is long. He genuinely cared for kids, and he was cared for in return.
Adult staff are also grieving the loss of Harry. You could always count on a greeting, as well as some first-rate yodeling where appropriate. We've known him to rescue injured animals, and use his many skills to help others throughout his lifetime. He even made unique and unexpected contributions to some school Winter Fest celebrations: Harry could sing and dance so well we've watched staff and students' eyes go wide with appreciation.
Harry kept students safe. Harry helped others. Harry made us smile. Our district will feel his absence for a long time.
It may be difficult for students who are accustomed to seeing Harry on their ride to and from school, and for staff who worked with him daily. We have attempted to personally contact parents of students who ride his bus so they are informed. Counseling is available at school for students and staff who will benefit from support during the grieving process. Counselors will also ride ON the bus with students for a time. All are encouraged to contact our counseling providers for assistance.
Heartfelt condolences are extended to Harry Marvin's family and friends at this difficult time.
