[EDIT: SCHOOL IS NOW CLOSED FOR STUDENTS ON TUESDAY, MARCH 17.]
IMPORTANT UPDATE from Mr. Robert Berson, Superintendent of Schools:
I want to let you know that there will be NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS ON MONDAY, MARCH 16. Monday will be a Superintendent's Conference Day for all staff as they continue to work on preparations in case school is closed for an extended period due to the coronavirus, or COVID-19.
At this time, it is expected that students and staff will report to school as usual on Tuesday, March 17, and will continue on a normal schedule until the Chenango County health department directs Otselic Valley to close school. If we are required to close, we will likely remain closed through the April break, returning April 14 at the earliest.
Please note that there are no confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in our district at this time, but we remain in constant contact with authorities during this fluid situation. We are working with the most current information received, and will deal with rapid changes if needed. As I said in our staff meeting Friday afternoon, Otselic Valley is able to pivot quickly to meet challenges before us.
Because circumstances may change at any time, families are encouraged to begin planning for long-term closure, including child care.
Remember that carefully considered steps recommended by public health authorities will go a long way toward keeping our families and community healthy and calm. Learn more and stay updated through our website which now includes an updated coronavirus information page, social media, and robocalls. We will keep you informed.
Until then, no school for students on Monday, March 16.
