We are pleased to introduce you to Deputy Gina R. Russo, Otselic Valley’s full-time School Resource Officer (S R O), and a former officer in the New York Police Department (N Y P D).  Like other S R Os who previously served at the Otselic Valley Central School, Deputy Russo works to ensure school safety, prevent crime, develop positive relationships with students, and deliver a first response if that becomes necessary.

Deputy Russo comes to us from the N Y P D from which she retired after 20 years of service. She moved to New Berlin in 2011 with her twin daughters, and rejoined the workforce as Unadilla Valley support staff in 2015.  Deputy Russo was hired by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office last spring, specifically as an S R O. Her training included police refresher classes with the Otsego County Law Enforcement Academy in order to reinstate police status.

As an S R O, Deputy Russo is not a security guard. She is a commissioned law enforcement officer with sworn authority and specialized training. Her work with students can be as diverse as students’ needs. Many of our students are specifically interested in criminal justice, and Deputy Russo can provide the unique perspective that comes experience. She’s been  helping in classrooms where she also serves as a role model. However, always and every day, student and staff safety are her primary concern.

Welcome to Otselic Valley, Deputy Russo, and thank you for your service to our community.
