Students at Conservation Contest

On May 15, 2025, Otselic Valley seniors David and Caden joined fellow Conservation students from the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego (DCMO) BOCES Alan D. Pole Campus to participate in the annual New York State Conservation Contest held at SUNY Cobleskill.

This statewide event welcomed high school students from BOCES programs across New York to compete in a wide range of hands-on challenges related to conservation, forestry, and natural resource management. The contest took place across the SUNY Cobleskill campus in a station-based format, allowing students to rotate through multiple events such as:

  • Woodsmen Competitions

  • Heavy Equipment Operation

  • Tree Climbing & Scaling

  • Tree, Fish, and Wildlife Identification

  • And more!

David and Caden represented Otselic Valley with skill, focus, and enthusiasm as they put their Conservation/Heavy Equipment training to the test in a real-world setting alongside peers from across the state. A special congratulations to David, who earned an impressive 5th place in the Skid Steer Competition.

We are proud of their efforts and commend them for taking part in this valuable learning experience. Special thanks to DCMO BOCES and SUNY Cobleskill for organizing and supporting such an enriching opportunity for students pursuing careers in conservation and environmental science.
