This week, Otselic Valley’s Student Board Representative Josie Guernsey joined student representatives from across the region at a special “Welcome to Student School Board Members” event hosted by Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES in partnership with the New York State Education Department and the New York State School Boards Association.
Josie, along with 11 other student leaders, had the opportunity to connect with state and local education leaders including:
Robert Schneider, NYSSBA Executive Director
Senator Shelley Mayer, Chair of the Senate Committee on Education
Assembly Member Carrie Woerner
Board of Regents Chancellor Lester Young
NYSSBA President Sandra Ruffo
NYSSBA Deputy Director and General Counsel Jay Worona
NYS Education Commissioner Betty Rosa
The event featured inspiring presentations and a community-building circle that emphasized student voice, belonging, and leadership. These experiences provided student board members with both valuable connections and a deeper understanding of their important role in education governance.
We are proud of Josie for representing Otselic Valley at this event and for bringing the student perspective to the OVCS Board of Education. Her leadership and service highlight the impact that student voices bring to our school community.
