New Incentives at OV

This year, Otselic Valley is excited to launch a series of school-wide incentives designed to encourage student engagement and strengthen our sense of community. In the past, students participated in one MS/HS incentive trip at the end of the school year. These opportunities will now take place more frequently and will include both elementary and MS/HS students, with activities designed to be age-appropriate and meaningful.

The first round of ideas was developed by an advisory committee made up of faculty, staff, and parents representing all areas of the district. Going forward, students will also have the opportunity to contribute their own ideas for future incentives.

Elementary School Incentive

For elementary students, the first incentive will focus on attendance. Each class will work toward a set number of attendance points, with every studentโ€™s daily attendance counting as one point. Once the class meets its goal, students will celebrate by choosing a reward together with their teacher.

Middle/High School Incentive

For middle and high school students, the first incentive will be the Viking Feast Incentive Picnic at Dorchester Park on Wednesday, October 15th.

  • Students will depart school at 11:00 a.m. and return between 2:00-2:30 p.m.

  • Lunch will be provided by the cafeteria (bagged lunches), though students may bring lunch from home if they prefer.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Have fewer than three absences since the start of the school year.

  • Have no violations of the new state phone policy.

These requirements were reviewed with all students on the first day of school. Permission slips will be distributed on October 1st and must be returned by October 9th in order to participate.

By creating these opportunities throughout the year, Otselic Valley aims to celebrate student success and build a culture of pride, accountability, and connection.
