Graphic promoting personalized learning with IXL for grades K–8, highlighting reading skills, math practice, and diagnostics and progress.

IXL is an online learning platform used by schools across the country to support personalized skill development in core academic areas. At Otselic Valley, the platform is used to support learning in reading and math for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

IXL allows students to build skills at their own pace through targeted practice activities. The program adapts to individual student needs by providing real-time feedback and adjusting practice based on performance, helping students strengthen foundational skills while gaining confidence as they learn.

Students begin with brief diagnostic “snapshot” assessments that help identify areas where they may need additional support. Based on these results, IXL provides activities and games that target specific skill areas. In the elementary grades, students often use IXL during station time, where they practice skills through interactive activities that reinforce classroom instruction.

For educators, IXL includes diagnostic and reporting tools that provide insights into student progress. Teachers can use this data to identify areas of strength and target instruction to support individual learners and classrooms as a whole. By combining student practice with teacher data tools, IXL supports differentiated instruction and helps meet the diverse learning needs of Otselic Valley students.

IXL is one of the tools Otselic Valley uses to support student learning and strengthen foundational skills in reading and math, helping students grow with targeted practice and teacher guidance. The district is also exploring expanded use of IXL in high school math next year to further support student learning across grade levels.
