With a heavy heart, we are sharing sad news that a student in our school community passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 due to natural causes. Leanna Rothwell had been a long-time student in our district, most recently attending a BOCES program of her choice.
Those who knew Leanna understood just how special she was: She hoped to be an advocate for those suffering from debilitating medical conditions. Leanna leaves behind her mom and dad, as well as two younger sisters.
Support has been offered to Leanna's family, our students, and staff and will continue for as long as itโs needed.
Our thoughts and prayers surround Leannaโs family, her friends, and others impacted by this unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
--Mrs. Debra Kurtz, Interim Superintendent

OV families, your certified eclipse glasses are on their way--watch your mailbox. Staff, yours are in your school mailboxes. You'll need these on the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024 to safely experience the historic total solar eclipse!
Mrs. Raymond, our Earth Science teacher and resident solar eclipse expert, has made sure her students know what's coming. She previously experienced solar eclipse totality during a big trip to Chile, and she knows we have good reason to be excited.
THANK YOU, Science Club!

ECLIPSE GLASSES ARE ALMOST READY
Thanks to the generosity of the Science Club, 4 pairs of certified solar eclipse glasses are being packaged to send to each family in our school. These will protect your eyes while viewing the solar eclipse happening on the afternoon of Monday, April 8.
If you have more than 4 people in your family, please take turns with these glasses or make a pinhole camera for safe viewing, but do not look at the sun directly.
Enjoy!

REMINDER for Thursday, March 28:
A Board of Education business meeting will be held at 7pm in the mirrored cafeteria. The Policy Committee meeting originally scheduled for 6pm has been canceled.

PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES AT OV
Remember, rules govern the use of personal electronic devices like games, audio devices, and especially cell phones at Otselic Valley. in general, phones for students up to 8th grade must be silent and put away during the school day, although students can use them before and after school.
Students in grades 9-12 who are in good standing can use their phones between classes and at lunch, and when a teacher allows their use for classwork. If adults ask a student to stop using a device, however, the student must cooperate.
Phones kept silent and out of sight during class allows student focus on learning, and freedom for other students to learn in a non-distracting environment.
Thank you for your cooperation.
(Questions? Contact Mrs. Barber-Breese at EBarberBreese@ovcs.org.)

BE INFORMED, BE READY FOR THE SOLAR ECLIPSE
Attached is a letter from the Earth Science teachers about the much publicized Solar Eclipse. The Science Club has generously provided four pairs of special solar glasses for all of our school families. These glasses will be coming soon. We ask that great care be taken with the glasses so they are not broken before the total eclipse on April 8th.
Also, remember that there is no school for staff or students on Monday, April 8, 2024. It's a give back day since we haven't used all of this school year's emergency closing days.

Vlad the Viking has been found! This isn't just Spirit Week fun -- it's also great practice in observation and attention. Vikings are winning!
