The girls modified soccer team earned their first win of the season last night with a 2-1 victory over McGraw!
Both goals were scored by Autumn, with Saria making some impressive saves in goal to keep things close. Callie helped anchor a strong defensive effort, while Ellie and Kassidy kept the energy up in midfield with great passing and hustle all game long. The girls take the field again tonight at home vs. Stockbridge -- way to go, Vikings!
On the boys side, the modified team traveled to Cincinnatus on Friday. Although they fell 1-3, the group worked hard on defense and Fenner scored the lone goal on a penalty kick. Last night, the boys faced them again and showed great improvement, battling to a 0–0 tie! Awesome effort and teamwork, Vikings!

|| Cooking in 5A and 5B!
Our 5A and 5B students had a delicious hands-on experience in class as they made fresh roasted salsa and quesadillas. Not only did they practice teamwork in the kitchen, but they also got to enjoy the tasty results of their hard work!
Our first graders received their very first books from their book sponsors this week -- and they were so excited! Thanks to the generosity of donors supporting our Scholastic book campaign, each student will receive a free book each month this year. This is such a wonderful way to foster a love of literacy and encourage lifelong reading.
This month’s book is The Ocean Is Kind of a Big Deal by Nick Seluk. Students enjoyed reading along together in class, learning fun ocean facts, and laughing at the ocean jokes included in the story.
Later this month, first grade will also receive their October book with a fun Halloween theme!
If you’d like to help keep this program going strong, there’s still time to support the Scholastic Book Campaign: https://rebrand.ly/6rxwxmb

Our 2nd and 3rd graders had a great time practicing their Spanish skills. From a color-by-number activity to a lively game of Go Fish, students learned their colors while having fun together.
This year, our Liberty Partnership Program (LPP) has offered our students so many meaningful opportunities!
• Students and families joined a school supply giveaway and dinner at SUNY Morrisville, catered by Magros.
• High school students explored SUNY Delhi, Cortland, Cobleskill, and the Job Corps campus in Oneonta.
• Middle school students took part in two trips to the Wilderness Adventure Park in Greene, where they participated in team-building activities, climbed the ropes course, and tackled the climbing wall. (Learn more about the park here: https://chowc.org/our-services/wilderness-adventure/)
These experiences not only build skills but also create memories that strengthen our Viking community.
A special thank you to Ms. Gorton for her leadership and dedication to our OV students!

• The results and impact of the new cell phone ban on both students and teachers
• An update from our student board representative, who encouraged students to share issues that matter to them
• Exciting plans for Homecoming Week, October 6-10 -- including spirit days, soccer games on October 9th, and the Homecoming Dance on October 10th.
This year’s theme is all about showing OV Pride. Stay tuned for more details on Homecoming events!

We’re taking a look back at The Centralian yearbook from 1949!
Here you’ll find the Senior Class of ’49, the Student Council, and the dedicated Faculty of South Otselic.
The senior class wrote about their “happy and successful years” and even looked forward to their trip to Washington, D.C. before graduation.
It’s always fun to revisit the people and moments that shaped Otselic Valley’s history.

Our 4th graders had the special opportunity to experience Journey to the Center of the Earth, performed by The REV Theatre Co. This exciting adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic combined science, adventure, and imagination in a performance our students won’t forget!
Students became part of the story as “young scientists,” helping crack codes, explore lava tubes, and even discover an underground sea filled with prehistoric creatures.
A big thank-you to The Rev Theatre Co. for bringing this exciting performance to OV -- it was an unforgettable way to blend literature and the arts!

OV Soccer Update!
|| Modified Boys Soccer
The boys’ modified soccer team secured their second win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Stockbridge Valley!
• Blake Marshall scored off a steal in the offensive third to make it 1-0.
• Daniel Mower netted his first goal of the season, beating a defender and finishing with a strong shot to extend the lead.
• The defense -- Carter, Zack, Colt, Eli, and Orion -- along with goalkeepers Fenner and Daniel, worked hard to preserve the shutout.
|| Modified Girls Soccer
The modified girls’ team, merged with Madison this season, is showing steady progress on the field. While a win has not come yet, the team has battled through several close games -- including two exciting 4-3 matches against Stockbridge and Cincinnatus. With hard work and determination, the girls continue to build skills and grow stronger each game.
|| Varsity Boys Soccer
The DeRuyter-OV varsity boys’ team improved their record on Friday with a 2-0 win!
• Owen Davis netted his 10th goal of the season.
• Caleb Loomis earned another clean sheet in goal.
|| Varsity Girls Soccer
• The girls’ varsity team hasn’t found a win yet this season, but they’re showing strong improvement, learning new skills, and working well together as a team. There have been some close games, and with the second half of the season ahead, we’re hopeful they’ll turn that hard work into victories.

Students have started practicing for Morning Program, with 5th graders already stepping up as MCs and running the slideshow. Teachers also modeled what their classes will do to get everyone ready for October 17th.
The first Morning Program for families will be on Friday, October 17th.
• Time: 8:20-8:45 am (please note the new time)
• Arrival: Parents may sign in at the office beginning at 8:15 am
We’re excited to welcome families back as we celebrate our students and start the day with OV pride!
