PARENT INFO ABOUT HEALTH MEASUREMENTS
As part of a required school health examination, a student is weighed, and his/her height is measured. These numbers are used to figure out the studentโs body mass index or โB M Iโ. The B M I helps the doctor or nurse know if the studentโs weight is in a healthy range or is too high or too low. Recent changes to the New York State Education Law require that B M I and weight status group be included as part of the studentโs school health examination.
A sample of school districts will be selected to take part in a survey by the New York State Department of Health. If our school is selected to be part of the survey, we will be reporting to New York State Department of Health information about our studentsโ weight status groups.
Only summary information is sent. No names and no information about individual students are sent. However, you may choose to have your childโs information excluded from this survey report.

GAME UPDATES:
The Varsity Baseball and Modified Softball games scheduled for this afternoon (Wednesday, May 15) have been postponed. There will be practice.
VIKING SIGHTING
"Jon Liuzzo is a member of the Class of 2015. Jon was an athlete and a member of many clubs in high school but he was also a constant on the OV stage starting in elementary school : musicals, fall play, Winterfest, talent shows, pep rallies, chorus, and band. Jon is a born performer, and It is great to see him join his dad on stage in many local, and not so local, venues. " -- Mrs. O
Go go go, Liuzzo Music!
[Pro tip: John's dad and co-performer was a featured presenter at another area school district last year as part of an assembly teaching students about diverse careers in the music industry. Other participants included a luthier, professor, photographer, sound engineering professional, recording artists, songwriters, and a promoter from a performing arts center.]

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE INVITATION FROM THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 973
"Dear Community Members, Friends, and Neighbors,
Memorial Day is just around the corner! On this day, we remember all of those who died in service for our country.
Our Memorial Day parade will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 27, followed by our memorial service at the cemetery. Please join us after at our Post 973 for a barbecue chicken dinner.
We are asking you to help us celebrate by participating in our parade. We are in need of your presence. Please consider entering a float, displaying a banner, or just walking as your group permits. Help us renew our parade by joining in.
We will announce your group and spread a message if you would like. Please have your group name and message prepared at the time of line-up (10:15 AM at the Otselic Valley Central School).
Our theme for this year's parade is "Stars and Stripes Forever." We would like to showcase our veterans this year with a "Parade of Veterans." Please decorate your ride with stars and stripes and bring a veteran along. If you know a veteran, we will try to arrange a ride. Let's show our never ending support!
For questions or to submit information needed to announce your group or veteran at the parade, please contact Mrs. Caroline Wentworth: Cwent7270@icloud.com; 315-653-7270.
Hope to see you on Memorial Day!"
[This isn't an official school district event, but our band will be marching and many community members will be interested.]

INSTRUCTIONAL CALENDAR CHANGE:
Otselic Valley will now be closed on Friday, May 24, consistent with DCMO BOCES and other component districts that are also closed. This is not a give-back of an unused snow day but is an adjustment to the calendar. As a result, Monday, June 17, which was originally scheduled as a rating day for the elementary school, will now be a full day of school for students. June 24th and 25th will also be full days for elementary students and staff, with Tuesday, June 25th being the last day of school for all. This calendar adjustment allows the district to retain its one unused snow day in the event of an emergency between now and the end of the school year while allowing for alignment with the BOCES calendar. If you have any questions, please reach out.
REMINDER for Monday, May 13 >
Annual Budget Hearing: 7 pm in the mirrored cafeteria
