And they're off!
FFA members and officers from OV are on their way to the New York FFA Convention in Buffalo. In addition to leadership workshops and general sessions at convention, they look forward to tree planting for a day of service and exploring the area. We'll follow along as they share photos! Many thanks to teachers/chaperones Mrs. Lehmann and Mrs. Graham, as always.

Happy School Principals' Day, Mrs. Barber-Breese, and thank you for all you do. You support all our students and teachers in Pre-K through 12th grade, and you do it with compassion. We appreciate you!

One of the best parts of student cooking at OV is the sharing! Food is good for the body and good for community, especially when offered by our Vikings. This cornbread was delicious!

Early this morning we learned of a potential threat and although it was not specific to OV, we went into a lockout. We are cooperating with investigations by Deputy Smith, our full-time Safety Resource Officer, and outside law enforcement who at this time have not found any credible threat. They are continuing to investigate so we will err on the side of caution and stay in lockout for the remainder of the day.
To clarify, a lockout means that inside school activities continue as normal but the exterior of the building is secured. Students remain inside the school building, and dismissal processes are adjusted. In a lockdown, the hallways are cleared, classrooms are locked, and students and staff stay out of sight.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

#ThrowbackThursday to the 4th Grade in the 1942 Centralian

The Sunshine Committee celebrates Administrative Professionals at OV! "Thanks for keeping us organized and informed and for supporting us in any way that you can. Keep up the incredible work. You are appreciated!"

District residents and members of our school community are invited to a Community Forum on Monday, April 29 at 6 pm in the mirrored cafeteria. This is an important opportunity to learn more about the 2024-2025 proposed budget and its impact on our school moving forward.
This event is not a Board of Education meeting. Rather, this forum will be hosted by Interim Superintendent Debra Kurtz and Interim Business Official Pete Mahunik. Mr. Mahunik will begin with an overview of the district finances and proposed budget, including a look ahead to the districtโs next 4-5 years. Following his presentation, you will have an opportunity to ask questions about the budget, and about regionalization and sharing of services to continue to provide our students with optimum learning opportunities despite our size and resources.
Light refreshments provided by Mrs. Kurtz and Mr. Mahunik will also be served.
Please join us for this important opportunity to stay informed so that when you go to the polls on May 21, 2024, you can make an informed decision. All are welcome.

The Boys Varsity Baseball and Boys Modified Baseball games scheduled for today (Wed., 4/17) have been postponed due to rain. Instead, Varsity practice will be from 3-5 pm at OV, and Modified practice will be from 3:30-5 pm at Cincinnatus.

BOARD OF EDUCATION REMINDERS for Tuesday, April 16, 2024:
--6 pm: Policy Committee meeting (library)
--7 pm: Business meeting, plus BOCES Admin Budget Vote and BOCES BOE member election (mirrored cafeteria)
[Copies of documents are available upon request at the cost of printing: .25 per page]

With a heavy heart, we are sharing sad news that a student in our school community passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024 due to natural causes. Leanna Rothwell had been a long-time student in our district, most recently attending a BOCES program of her choice.
Those who knew Leanna understood just how special she was: She hoped to be an advocate for those suffering from debilitating medical conditions. Leanna leaves behind her mom and dad, as well as two younger sisters.
Support has been offered to Leanna's family, our students, and staff and will continue for as long as itโs needed.
Our thoughts and prayers surround Leannaโs family, her friends, and others impacted by this unexpected and heartbreaking loss.
--Mrs. Debra Kurtz, Interim Superintendent
